TwoGreenThumbs Garden Club is entering its seventh year as an active club, sponsoring and helping to promote gardening throughout the town of Knightdale, NC. Our first meeting was held in September 2000, and we became a member of the Garden Club of NC in April of 2001. Currently, we are meeting from 9:45 till noon on the second Saturday of the month (September – May) at Knightdale Baptist Church in historic downtown Knightdale. We enjoy a variety of garden programs that include discussions on flowers, birds, and landscaping, and we have interesting speakers. There is always a chance to chat afterwards with a light brunch hosted by various club members. As of May 2007, we have 24 active members.
There are a variety of club projects that keep us busy. We maintain 2 flowerbeds within the downtown area; the Bluestar Memorial at the intersection of First and Main, and the “point” at Smithfield Rd and Main Street. Two of our other ongoing projects are maintaining the round-a-bout near the Knightdale Blvd. shopping center at the Lowes Home Improvement store, and the club keeps the courtyard at Wellington Nursing Home looking its best in the growing months. During the fall, we have our first major fundraiser to support our projects by selling carwash tickets to Autobell. In December, we decorate the exterior of Knightdale Baptist for Christmas, and participate in the in the town Christmas parade with a float, passing out candy and flower bulbs. In late winter, we prune the rose garden at Knightdale Baptist Church. By early spring, we are in full planning mode for the spring fundraiser, and are able to offer a $500.00 scholarship to an area high school senior that has an interest in pursuing landscaping or gardening in college
We invite you to come out and join us in our gardening endeavors. You will find gardening friends who don’t mind digging in the dirt and getting their clothes a little messy. Don’t worry if you have never planted anything before. We garden at all levels!
